The Toronto Blue Jays are investing in the future by drafting Purvis High School standout JoJo Parker with the eighth overall pick in the MLB Draft. Widely regarded as one of the most dynamic high school players in the nation, Parker’s future in pro baseball looks incredibly bright.
Parker was the centerpiece of his high school team’s success. The 6-foot-2 shortstop had an eye-popping senior campaign, batting .489, hitting 13 home runs, scoring 64 times, and stealing 30 bases across the season.
Not only did he lead with his bat and speed, but Parker also turned heads from the mound. As a right-handed pitcher, he notched 89 strikeouts and posted an 8-2 record with a strong 2.77 ERA, making him a valuable asset on both sides of the ball.
Though previously committed to Mississippi State University, Parker may now forgo college to pursue a professional path with the Blue Jays. His all-around talent positions him as one of the most exciting additions to Toronto’s farm system in years.
